その町の灯を見た時、母さん狐は、
ある時 町へ お友達と出かけていって、
とんだめに あったことを 思い出しました。
およしなさいって いうのもきかないで、
お友達の狐が ある家の あひるを盗もうとしたので、
お百姓に見つかって、さんざ追いまくられて、
命からがら逃げたことでした。
「母ちゃん何してんの、早く行こうよ」
と子供の狐がお腹の下から言うのでしたが、
母さん狐はどうしても足がすすまないのでした。
そこで、しかたがないので、ぼうや だけを
一人で町まで行かせることになりました。
「ぼうや お手々を片方お出し」
と母さん狐がいいました。
その手を、母さん狐は しばらく握っている間に、
可愛いい人間の子供の手にしてしまいました。

Find out the reasons behind a grammatical rule, a sentence structure, or even the way a word is pronounced. Trust me, when you know the reasons why something is presented the way it is, it becomes so much easier to remember and use in conversation and writing.

Think of it like building a house. You need a solid foundation of bricks even though you might just see the pretty, colorful windows. Behind every beautiful house is a strong foundation of bricks, which once laid, cannot be removed. It’s the same with language. Once you know the reasons behind the rules, you’re stuck with them in a good way!

El Carnaval de Negros y Blancos es la fiesta más grande e importante del sur de Colombia. Se celebra del 2 al 7 de enero de cada año, y atrae un considerable número de turistas colombianos y extranjeros. En 2009 fue declarado Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanidad por la UNESCO. 

El Carnaval de Negros y Blancos tiene su origen en la fusión de múltiples culturas y expresiones, correspondientes a los Andes, la Amazonia y la cultura del Pacífico. El carnaval de negros y blancos nació en el siglo XVI en el año 1546. Se realiza a principios de año debido a que tiene un origen en rituales indígenas. Estas celebraciones, con la fusión e influencia de la cultura española dan origen al sincretismo hispano religioso, que generan porto expresiones de lo que será el carnaval de Pasto. 

El 5 de enero está dedicado al día de los Negros. Durante esta jornada se conmemora el día en que los esclavos de origen africano tenían libre para dar rienda suelta a sus desahogos lúdicos y la gente juega y baila en las calles y en los lugares públicos a pintarse de negro. El lema de ese día es: ¡Qué vivan los Negros! El 6 de enero esta ciudad ya no celebra más el Día de Reyes, sino el día de los Blancos o Día del Desfile Magno. En contraste con el día anterior, en esta fecha los pastusos se pintan de blanco generalmente con talco perfumado, usándose muy poco harina, cremas o pinturas cosméticas. 

El evento o atracción principal, además de verbenas populares en las plazas y calles de la ciudad, es el gran desfile, que recorre las calles del centro de la ciudad, la Plaza del Carnaval y parte de las avenidas de la periferia por la llamada Senda del Carnaval. El lema de ese día es: ¡Qué vivan los Blancos! y en los últimos años se ha convertido en infaltable el de ¡Viva Pasto Carajo!, pronunciado tanto por lugareños como por turistas.

Students regularly ask me, "How do I know what comes after a verb?" If a verb takes another verb as a complement, it is usually either a full infinitive or a gerund (e.g., "to do" or "doing").  Bare infinitives (e.g., "do") can only be complements for a small number of verbs, but these verbs are very common.  In this article, I take a look at some verbs that take bare infinitives as complements.
