คำอธิบาย
In a busy Indian home, half of all talk is passing messages along. Mummy says dinner is ready, so you tell your brother. Dadi rings and asks when you are coming, so you pass the question to Papa. In this episode: • Ki and no tense shifting • The four reporting verbs • Whose "i" is it? • Passing on questions • Passing on instructions • What someone is saying now, and dropping ki • Scene: the phone call relay • Practice • Self-check questions with answers Key Hindi from this episode: कहा (kaha) = said. From कहना (kehna). बोला (bola) = said, told. From बोलना (bolna). Very common and casual. बताया (bataaya) = told, informed. From बताना (bataana). पूछा (poochha) = asked. From पूछना (poochhna). उसने बताया कि बस लेट है (usne bataaya ki bus late hai) = She told me the bus is late. मम्मी ने मुझसे कहा (Mummy ne mujhse kaha) = Mummy told me. पापा ने मुझसे पूछा (Papa ne mujhse poochha) = Papa asked me. ऐसा (aisa) = like this, so. A handy word when you don't repeat the words. उसने ऐसा कहा (usne aisa kaha) = He said so. तुमने ऐसा क्यों कहा? (tumne aisa kyon kaha?) = Why did you say that? पूछो कि वो कब आएगा (poochho ki vo kab aayega) = Ask when he'll come. पूछो कि क्या वो आ रहा है (poochho ki kya vo aa raha hai) = Ask whether he's coming. पापा ने कहा कि जल्दी आ जाओ (Papa ne kaha ki jaldi aa jaao) = Papa said to come quickly. आंटी ने कहा कि आप बैठिए (aunty ne kaha ki aap baithiye) = Aunty said please sit down.
