When I did something wrong in my childhood because of not knowing what I was doing, my parents explained me what I did wrong instead of thoughtlessly beating me up like too many other parents do. These moments are the brightest in my childhood memories, I remember them very well and came to right conclusions from my parents' explanations. What stupid parents do wrong (and too often..) is they ASSUME their kid doing bad stuff on purpose and silently punish them on sight, without investigation and explanation. This effing assumption is so wrong I couldn't stand not writing about it.
