What is the equivalent of an “essay” in Spain/Latin America? ‎ Who knows how is an “essay” called in Spain and Latin America?

It depends on the context, it can be ensayo or composición

I agree with Victor. I might also add « redacción », which is the word I most frequently use. If the essay is longer (like a big course paper), you can call it an « artículo » or a « trabajo ».
