As far as I know, I'd say the more income is earned, the happier people feel although the ratio of money to happiness will decrease as the total money you receive increases.
Obviously, people become happy when they have basic necessities, like food, clothes and a place to sleep, met. Money is indispensible for the essentials. A Chinese Philosopher, Confucius, said basic needs come first. And then, people can appriciate things.
Plus, extra money allows us to improve the standards of living and entertain ourselves. Quality food and useful electronic appliances make us happy, don't they? Besides, more money enables more food, drinks and services although some say people feel never enough. More money brings relatively smaller satisfaction than before because someone's current consumption patterns will become normal for the person and end up generating less satisfaction, making them want more.
To sum up, happiness is proportional to income, but the incremental portion will get smaller.
That's all that comes to mind for now, but I think happiness is such a subjective matter that it can be difficult to measure the happiness level of a specific individual.
