Russian was almost the only language taught and learnt in Mongolia for almost 50 years. English, German, French was taught only at Mongolian State University but children at secondary school were taught only Russian. Therefore, we had and still have a lot of Russian words such кондуктор, радио, автобус, билет, дирижёр etc. We still have and use these words but some of them such радио, кондуктор are not used anymore because people do not listen to radio like before or the buses do not have a bus ticket collector. It wasn't until 1999 when children at school started learning other languages such as English, German or Chinese. Now children can choose the language they like. Most popular and spoken languages in Mongolia are English, Chinese, Korean or Japanese. Therefore, now we have more English language words such as 'cool, ex-girlfriend/boy, roller, album, camping etc. Russian language is spoken mostly now by people of my age, the older generation. Now English is popular among people of all ages and also because it is a very important language in doing business and career.
