In the movie Alien: Covenant (2017) WALTER: A rogue transmission, most probably. Your helmet must have picked it up because you were so far out... past our communication buffers. The instruments took a lot of damage. Would it sound better to say ‘must' instead of 'would'? Any differences?

I'd say the difference is the amount of certainty you have, so to speak. Must indicate more and would less. By using would you are just guess whereas by using must you have something that indicates it could be what you are thinking of Cheers 🥂 Nice movie, by the way.
