I came across an article about "Fog collectors" on the internet and would like to
share it here. UNICEF says there are currently over 2 billion people, who are suffering
from a lack of water, across the world. On top of that, the number is expected to
get worse in the coming decades due to climate change. Various factors such as
drought has made water resources be in crisis lately. One of the solutions to the issue is a device called a "Fog collector." The device can
collect moisture from the air, condense it and create drinking water. The device is also (sometimes) called a "Mist
Catcher" or "Fog harvester." They spread a net made of chemical fibers toward the
direction of an approaching fog. A pipe for water collection is put under the
net and water is collected into tanks through the pipe. There are some areas
where sea fog occurs easily in a coast even though it is a dry land. The device
might come in handy in these places. BBC states that a large number of
areas such as the ancient Inca Empire, Africa and South Asia has applied this
method, which extracts water from air, since time immemorial. It is said these
kinds of systems have already been commercialized. So, I really hope the
equipment is affordable and is easy for everyone to acquire.
You can use the word "condense" to describe when moisture in the air become liquid water.
