We just say we have butterflies. "I have butterflies." or: "I have butterflies in my stomach." or: "I have nervous butterflies." It can mean either being nervous, or excited, or being nervous and happy or nervous and excited at the same time. It has nothing to do with sadness.

Feeling extremely excited or happy might be correct. It depends the situation.
