I believe that it really depends on your goals. If you need the language for work, prepare for certain situations you might face at work (job interviews, negotiations, emails, conflict resolution and so on) If you need to pass an exam, learn all you can about its format and prepare accordingly. If it's just a hobby, relax and enjoy watching funny videos, reading blogs and books in the language you're learning - just do whatever you like to do in your first language.
