Hi The first sentence should be "inspired by", but otherwise is grammatically correct. The second is correct. Are they 'natural'? Well that's difficult. Firstly, there's a big difference between the two in terms of formality. Sentence 1 is very formal, but the reply is really informal, so as a whole the conversation seems unusual. Secondly, as a teacher I can't imagine saying sentence 1. The praise seems too strong. I don't think it sounds genuine... but that's about the culture of teaching in different countries.

Example: I cut my teeth on hunting squirrels. - "Rookie" is used mostly to describe being new on the job, like a rookie cop. - Instead, I would say, I'm a beginner or I'm a newbie.
