I am starting a new way of studying Japanese by using a Japanese- English Bilingual Bible. I think that this will help greatly. I started with the first verse and already have a question. My question is: When hiragana is used verses Kanji is there a different contextual meaning being implied? In the example below why is はじめに used instead of 初めに? Would the context be different if the Kanji was used here? Example: はじめに神が天と地を創造された。

Thank you Tony for your comment. I am just starting and hope that I will understand Japanese even more by doing so. I have heard of stories of my grandparents teaching themselves to read and write by using the Bible, so I thought that I would try to do this with learning Japanese. I think that you should give it a try and take line by line and use it help your studying. The Japanese sentence above has 5 Kanji that range from N5-N1 level words. This is helping me to read and write as well as memorizing vocabulary. I know you can do it! I believe in you! Give it a try! Thank you again for your kind words and encouragement.
