🚕 You know how to say “To the hotel, please.” But what happens when the driver replies?
You have three suitcases. You’re unsure about the fare. Then the driver asks a question you weren’t expecting.
Let’s practice before you arrive in Japan.
「このホテルまでお願いします。」
To this hotel, please.
「ここまで、だいたいいくらかかりますか?」
About how much will it cost to get here?
「大きなスーツケースが三つあります。全部載りますか?」
I have three large suitcases. Will they all fit?
And when you don’t understand:
「すみません、もう一度ゆっくりお願いします。」
Sorry, could you say that again slowly?
Knowing a phrase is a great start. Feeling comfortable using it, understanding the reply, and asking another question takes practice.
I’m Takeo, a Japanese tutor who loves photography. I use photos like this one to bring everyday situations into our lessons. You’ll spend time speaking, listening, and finding ways to express yourself with the Japanese you already know.
💬 Your turn: You’re in this taxi and want to ask, “Can I pay by card?” How would you say it in Japanese? Try in the comments!
If you’re visiting Japan soon, visit my profile and book a lesson. Tell me which situations worry you, and we’ll practice them together. 🇯🇵
