I cannot decide which of these 2 tests I should pass : TOEIC (Test Of English for INternational Communication) or IELTS (International English Language Test System).
I've heard that TOEIC is better if you want to work in an English-speaking company, and IELTS is better if you actually want to live in the country.
So, if I want to live and work in an English speaking country, should I just take the IELTS and hope employers know about it ?
But if I want to live and work in a non English-speaking country, is it better to take the TOEIC ?
Or is there another test I have not heard of that would be better than the two above ?
If you have any advice, please let me know !

TOEFL is an advanced test, mainly for study in US academic institutions. It may also be accepted for employment, although any job that seriously requires English will ignore all tests and certificates, and go by your performance in the interview.

TOEIC is an (American English) intermediate level test. It may be useful for impressing people in non-English speaking countries, and it may provide a “justification” for you to get a raise — if the boss is your aunt or uncle.
Hi Audrey, I agree with all Phil's points. I would like to add a bit more on the TOEIC test. This test is often taken by Korean and Japanese students and is widely known in these two countries. However, there was a scandal in Japan in 2009, which damaged the test's reputation. In addition, IELTS is also recognized for study in most US academic institutions. I think it depends of what you want to do with test score. For example for business school, in case you want to do a MBA or MSc program , they ask for IELTS or TOEIFL and not TOEIC. In my point of view, IETLS is more usefull than TOEIC. choose your test according to your target
