"Gan" is a polyphonic character. In Chinese, some characters have the same pronunciation but different meanings；Some Chinese characters have different meanings for "same word with different sound"；Here are three ways to use it：

Hi Phil,

You might have a grasp of 干 with these examples: 干涉、干预、干扰、相干。

Basically 干 means "to be involved" in this case.

Well, the advice from Placid is good and very much to the point.

You don't need to go so deep as to figure out what 干 exactly means in 干涉(interfere)， unless you want to be a professor of linguistics in college.

Thank up for sharing. There is a meaning of dry. But this is adjective I think.

这衣服干了。this clothe is dry. 这这服在干衣机里面烘干。this jacket is drying up at a dryer machine 风这么大，都把我湿透的衣服吹干了。the wind is so strong it dries out my soaking hoodie.

About 干涉， interfere with it is a combination word. There is interpersonation suffix inter and fere comes together. Haha I know my explanation is wrong but 干涉干预。it is not as doing meaning. It is 介入，but I don't know how to say in English. Like two parts there is connection with. My personal guess. For a learner you are better to grasp how to use it in as verb sentences interfere in and noun sentences interference. I think not all the combination word can be dismantled(take apart) .
