Could you please help me fill the blank: "We ...... ...... the sixteen statements."?
Could you please help me find some more suitable words to complete the sentence with Present continuous tense.

That's right. Just be careful when the subject changes though. "We", "you", and "they" are writing. But "I am writing" and "he or she is writing".
