Do you think spices are hot?
I have heard people saying I can't eat/tolerate Indian/Mexican food because they are spicy. Do you mean it's hot?(Spicy=Hot?) Not every spice is hot. They have different flavors and are used for some pleasant aroma that can increase your appetite. It's like get yourself ready before you run in the trace!:D As they say your food should best be approved by your eyes and nose before it tingles your tongue!

How much spice do you add to your food and what are the common spices always available in your kitchen?

Have an aromatic day everyone!:)

cumin, cinnamon, black pepper are always used to flavor food. Some prefer hot spicy food but not to the degree of the Indian and Mexican food.
Even tea is flavored with cardamoms and Eid cookies as well.
You need to beet out of your cave and come here to taste our food @Troglodyte.

Hmm, a mild spice person!:) Having so much spices(especially the hot ones) most of the time is not good. So, need to choose the type and amount to be added to your food instead of blindly adding every spices in a hope to make it taste great(which may not be the case always)!:D And people who have acid reflux problem should limit or carefully have spices as you mentioned, Alice!:)

<em>"The use of "spicy" can be confusing sometimes because I've heard it used both ways: to indicate something is too hot even though it may only actually contain one type of spice, or to indicate something that uses many different kinds of spices but might not actually be hot."</em>

Aura, yes yes that's why I brought this topic to discuss because I was also confused the way people use this word. Most of the time, I think they are saying it's hot.
Hmm glad to know you are a spice lover!:) I can make you a sweet and spicy cup of spice tea, be my guest!:)

I don't think spicy means hot. At least I hardly have the feeling when I eat. I love spicy and eat spicy food almost everyday. Spicy food for me more like an appetizer and we usually use peppers to make our food spicy instead of sauces. That kind of spicy is sooooo appetizing!however not every spicy can be the same. some are really... hot!(xox)! That is hot!

The use of "spicy" can be confusing sometimes because I've heard it used both ways: to indicate something is too hot even though it may only actually contain one type of spice, or to indicate something that uses many different kinds of spices but might not actually be hot.

I like hot, spicy food such as kimchi, curry, and dishes that involve jalapeños, cayenne pepper, or other kinds of hot peppers. I also like food and beverages that contain many different kinds of spices that might not necessarily be hot, like pumpkin pie or chai (often referred to as "chai tea" in English).

I enjoy the smell of aromatic spices :)

I like this question! I've always been a mild spice person. I don't mind some black pepper or cayenne  seasoning. But anything like curry or more along those lines no. I have acid reflux, so I don't deal with spicy foods well. I don't like hot sauce. Mexican food I actually don't eat salsa. I don't really eat much red peppers or any peppers for that matter.
