How to get paid here on italki? And is there any assurance of getting paid on italki? Is it guaranteed to receive payments?

I dont have students yet. 
I tried lowering my rate to keep up with the competition to no avail. But I'm not lossing hope. 
I keep correcting students notebook in the hope that they will notice my profile and take up lessons with me. I also comment on other people's thread/discussion. I'm doing everything to get noticed :)

As far as I know, there are already some teachers who have tought 2 to 6 lessons already. And I guess at the start, getting started with a relatively low rate would work better. And offering free trial would also be a great idea. It takes time for both students and teachers to get used to the system. But believe me, getting started earlier and well prepared will bring you more advantages. A real photo, a good introduction video, customized courses and good communications with students are all very helpful.

@Phil, You can see the number of sessions that have taken place by going to Language Teachers. Keeping it set to "Any Language" and then sorting the list by Sessions. You will see the Sessions text link on the righthand side just above the first person's Hourly Rate.
Then you can quickly glance down the list of teachers and how many sessions each teacher has taught. You can do a quick add up yourself. As of now, we've had about 40 sessions completed.
