Life As I Know It Sometimes I step back and take a look at my world, And wonder: “Is it really worth it?” Getting up every single day, The same routine…Monday through Friday 8AM till 4:30PM Phone calls, constant typing, paperwork… Signing my name a hundred times over, Trying not to lose my head when someone raises their voice to me, Deadlines, meetings, rush hour traffic It’s overwhelmingly nauseating But lately, I haven’t been getting much sleep My eyes shut but I just lay there, my mind racing I no longer possess the youthful appearance I had just four years ago I took it for granted I was a much happier person then When the only worries I had were finishing papers on time And whether she and I would remain together in the end I saw my friends every day, We had so many good times together, Then, as quickly as it started, it all ended Reality knocked on my door, and I answered, like a fool It dragged me out by my shirt, whilst I put up a fight to stay put It dragged me to a place where I know no one Where I constantly feel alone The winters are too cold, and the summers are too hot When it rains, it never stops Maybe one day I can bid farewell to this purgatory world And seek the life I dreamt of as a child: Seeing the world and everything in it Meeting new people and keeping them close Never having a place to call ‘home’ Because I keep traveling, and I walk alone through this life Who knows? This fantastic life for me could start tomorrow Or it could start in a year I’ll never know until it greets me face-to-face Because no one knows what the future holds.
