IELTS Writing 2 practice (2) Space exploration Question: Space exploration requires vast sums of money. Is the amount of money spent on space research justifiable? Could the money be better spent? Answer: Exploring our universe is an inevitable trend among industrialized countries. Given that there exists hundreds of thousands known and mysterious resources which could be explored, it is a huge temptation to implement different costly approaches. However, we are already facing various kinds of disasters and diseases on our earth, so, is it really appropriate to spend huge on the outer space? The money is definitely worth investing, if it is concerning about the long term development for mankind. Under no circumstances could we escape from the extinction of disposable resources; especially fossil fuels like coals or oils; we should genuinely consider as many substitutes as possible. On the contrary, some may claim that adopting renewable energy like solar or wind energy could tackle the energy crisis, instead of making space exploration. Indeed, until now the technology level of those resources is not mature enough to meet the current gianormous demand. Thus, the energy difficulty seemingly may be only relieved by out-space resources in short run. Simultaneously, is that probable and appropriate to spend the whole majority funding on space, instead of our planet earth? Despite the fact that, countries, since roughly around the period of cold war, are participating in space competition to certain extent; it is generally argued that money should be spent on livelihoods, like income gap elimination or global staring alleviation. In my opinion, developed countries like USA or Germany should draft agreements on mutual-development on space resources, thus, a more balance on universe and earth issues could be attained, rather than competing endlessly on their knowledge and capital. To conclude, it is an extremely complex issue cannot be solved in short term. Running out of resource is definitely an urgent event, likewise, so as the environmental and social issues. Space is tend to be infinite, like the greed of human, I yearn for a more balanced accomplishment could be generated and agreed among countries for a more effective development, in order to achieve a better place to live.
