American Ways of Saying: To hang out
"To hang out" è uno dei modi di dire più comuni qui negli States, ma noto spesso che chi sta imparando l'inglese fa fatica ad usarlo.
In generale, significa uscire, stare in compagnia di, passare del tempo con qualcuno, ma anche solo passare il tempo in qualche modo.
ex. Let's hang out! = Usciamo/passiamo del tempo assieme
Today I'm hanging out with my best friend = Oggi passo del tempo con/esco/sono in compagnia del/la mio/a migliore amico/a
A: What are you doing?, B: I'm just hanging out at the house = A: Che fai/Cosa stai facendo?, B: Sono a casa/Sto passando il tempo a casa
Nell'ultimo esempio "I'm just hanging out at the house", la frase vuole sottolineare l'azione di "passare il tempo".
Se usassimo la frase "I'm at the house" (cioè, "sono a casa"), stiamo sottolineando il luogo in cui siamo, la casa, quindi sarebbe più appropriata come risposta alla domanda, "where are you?".

Buon divertimento!

.... Poi ci sarebbe anche ''hang over''
... Che molto spesso è la conseguenza del ''to hang out'' :)
