Ciao a tutti!

I am wondering often about past tenses and which and when do I use a certain past tense. So here is s message I'd like to get help with...please feel free to edit and correct.

Sto cercando Elena Rossi che abitava a Bologna nel 1995 e aveva un'amica di nome Laura.  (È meglio usare "di nome Laura" perché  " si chiamava" di solito è un'espressione usata  per riferirsi a persone che non sono più in vita = Morte) 

Particularly the last part of the sentence: aveva un'amica chiamata....oppure...aveva un'amica che si chiamava?

Sto cercando una Elena Rossi che abitava a Bologna circa nel 1995 e aveva un'amica che si chiamava  Laura ( or "di nome Laura").

Particularly the last part of the sentence: aveva un'amica chiamata....oppure...aveva un'amica che si chiamava?
