Learning English As a English self-learner, one of the things that has been the hardest for me is the fact that I can't develop a listening comprehension as I would've like to, as well as my fluency when I'm speaking; that's why I just recently joined an English course, in orden to improve my language skills, so I can practice with some friends. A few classes ago, the teacher told me that I should watch some TV and movies in English, specially sitcoms like Friends, because they use a ver simple vocabulary that I can understand and, more importantly, my ears can get used to this new language.

I too studied on my own and I can understand what you feel. Understanding and speaking English as a native person does is difficult especially if Spanish happens to be your first language. I remember how desperate I was when I couldn't understand a word! But you won't get there by studying all the ins and outs of English grammar. As you've been told, you need to listen but only recorded materials so you can go bit by bit, sentence by sentence and even try to transcribe what you hear. Sounds crazy but it can work wonders. The important thing is that you persist! Best of luck!
