Discrimation at work Discrimation at work Equality between genders is an important, achievable and laudable goal. We should all strive to eradicate prejudice and discrimination in all its forms, especial sexism. People should all work together to make sure that everyone has the same opportunities and rights as everyone else. It must be explained that assignment of gender roles began with child-rearing in pre-industrial times. The mother of the child needed to be at home in order to breastfeed the child. The father, instead, did things outside the home. The introduction of farming created a stable food supply, and the father then was able to begin to amass wealth and property. The mother, meanwhile, was still in the home, and her work brought in no money. It is this income disparity that is the root of gender inequality issues. Though we are well past the day that this was our only option for dividing labour, old habits and old thinking die hard. It should be highlighted that women do not make statistically significant less than men when comparing apples to apples (e.g. amount of time at current position, strength of company, education and work history, etc.); however, they are often passed up for employment and promotions based on sexual discrimination. Who deserves the job should get the job and women can easily earn the position rather than needing it to be reserved for them. These days, women are starting to outperform men in many employment fields and hiring should be determined only by skills, certifications, or other such factors that are pertinent to the job in question. So, in conclusion, some day it would be very nice to have gender equality, but meanwhile we should be moving, towards a stance of true equality, which mean dealing with social and legal issues. All humans should be treated equal, regardless of age, race, gender, social status, religion, or ethnicity.
