TOEFL Writing Practice II Question: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The rules that the whole society today expect young people to follow are too strict? Answer: I agree the statement that the rules which the whole society today expects young people to follow are too strict. We can discuss this issue in several aspects. For instance, the society and the culture are changed due to the technology improvement, and the young people are forced to adapt themselves into the new technological world and meanwhile into the traditional concepts. For example, the reading behavior alters thanks to the smartphones, and we need to acquire latest news in a short time to deal with our social circle. Therefore, people now are accustomed to have a quick look on the website instead of reading a hard copy book deeply. However, people in the last generation think that the young generation should learn the knowledge more deeply and also more widely. Besides, we are facing globalization and the competition in this generation becomes fierce. The whole society puts too much emphasis on the results, which the young generation makes, like international competition, the international reputation of a new local brand, and etc. Nevertheless, when they compare these results made by the young generation with the outcome the old generation made, they usually forget to put the nowadays fierce competition in to account. Hence, they urge the young generation to have better performance than they used to have. To sum up, no matter which generation we are, we should always put ourselves in others’ shoes to be a considerate people. Young generation and old generation are in different time condition, so don’t expect them obey the tradition and create a new page at the same time.
