Victory Day

On the 9th of May the Russian Federation celebrates Victory Day. There is 66 year after 66 years have passed since the ending of the terrifying war. It is a celebrates the great exploits of our population in the Second World War.

Every year we congratulate our veterans during this holiday. On Red Square we have the greatest parade which everyone can see online (or) by TV. At 12 o’clock in every city we have a local parade. In my countryside village we have a local mass-meeting. It is very important for everybody today, because every family took part in that and after a long time we remember those awful descriptions of what happened, which we heard from our great-grandparents.

Unfortunately, from year to year we have less and less people who took part in that war. We, the young generation, should save this great history and the names of our heroes.

In English the day is called "Victory Day" as "The Day of Victory" would mean the day on which the victory actually happened, i.e. 9 May 1945. Деревня is translated two ways into English - the first when it means "not in the cities and towns" is 'countryside', and secondly "a very small town" as 'village'.
