There are or is (please) Hi, there Let's say you go out to look for someone's dog on the beach and then, when you return, you say "I am afraid there is no dog on the beach", Is it odd? Should I say "I am afraid there ARE no dogS on the beach"? Thank you

Either is correct! The second one sounds a little better though!

You might well want to say something more like "I'm sorry. I couldn't find your dog."
