How do you use BUM in English? I just read an article about bum. It is the sentence. ''I'm just an old bum at home'' Bill said, ''but here you treat me like a VIP.'' Does bum have negative meanings? Or it is a neutral word? Why is it also same to bumbailliff?

I agree with what the others have said. You can also use the phrase "bumming around" to mean wasting time, in a neutral but slightly humorous sense. I also don't know what a bumbailiff is, but now that I've heard it, I desperately want it to be a word and to start using it in conversation. Just as soon as we've decided what it means :-D

In the context of your sentence: ('I'm just an old bum at home") the person means that they are nobody special, a good-for-nothing. In this context, "bum" means a useless person: "Don't listen to that guy; he's a bum." It can also be used to refer to a homeless person, but that is considered quite rude and offensive these days.

“An old bum” is an English expression which refers to a lazy person. I hope this helps, Zoe 😊.

This word can also be used to refer to a vagrant, although it's generally considered offensive or insensitive. ... As a verb, bum is a term for lazing around, as in, "I didn't have any homework this afternoon, so I just bummed around and played video games.
