Every year, when we see flower and potting orange booths on the street everywhere, we know Chinese New Year is around the corner. In Canton, people believe blooming flowers bring us wealth and rank(花开富贵), and they also add to the festive atmosphere. As for potting oranges, we often call them Spring festival oranges. They are not for eating but to seek luck, because the Cantonese word for orange sounds the same as Ji(吉), which means good luck. Those oranges can stay fresh for five weeks or more when given proper care, and it is customary to take them down after the 15th day of the first lunar month since that day marks the end of Lunar New Year. Apart from flowers and oranges pots, we stock all kinds of food for the festival as well. My family plan on a dinner with a hotpot and barbecue for the eve of the Chinese New Year. It will be fun.

Each year, when we see flowers and miniature orange trees on the streets, we know Chinese New Year is around the corner. In Canton, people believe blooming flowers bring wealth and status. They also add to the festive atmosphere. As for the orange, we often call them Spring Festival Oranges. They are not for eating, but to bring luck, because the Cantonese word for orange sounds the same as "Ji(吉", which means "good luck". The oranges can stay fresh for five weeks or more when given proper care, and it is customary to take the trees down after the 15th day of the first lunar month, since that day marks the end of the Lunar New Year. Apart from the flowers and oranges, we stock all kinds of food for the festival as well. My family plans on having a hotpot dinner and barbecue for Chinese New Year's eve. It will be fun.
Sounds like fun!

This was such an interesting read. Thank you for sharing🍊 Be careful with word order and punctuation. Can I ask what are orange potting booths?

Every year, when we see flower and potted orange booths on the street everywhere, we know Chinese New Year is around the corner. In Canton(it’s mostly referred to as Guangzhou now), people believe blooming flowers bring us wealth and rank(花开富贵), and they also add to the festive atmosphere. As for potted oranges, we often call them Spring festival oranges. Apart from flowers and potted orange plants , we stock all kinds of food for the festival as well. My family plan on having a dinner with a hotpot and barbecue for the eve of the Chinese New Year. It will be fun. ——corrected by GuideDogSaint. Many thanks to him.
