I've recently finished "A study in Scarlet". It was the last month's book from the book club I'm in. Even though I couldn't go that session, I still wanted to finished the book. I didn't read a Sherlock Holmes' novel since I was a teenager, so I was eager to. So before going to sleep I read a few pages until I became completely absorbed in the novel. And the second part was a real page-turner. The author's writing was so detailed that I could easily imagine what was happening. It was great!

Fabulous! Yes, you cannot beat a Sherlock Holmes story. (Well, except with an Agatha Christie, maybe :) We need the past perfect ('I hadn't read ...') because that period is now finished, as you have now read the book.
