It isn't formal. It means: to give me victory, or success. "I fought with a much bigger opponent, but his being drunk gave me a win." "Many excellent candidates were interviewed for the job, but my spoken English skills gave me a win." "Our products are no better than those of our competitors, but our faster delivery times and superior customer service will give us a win."
