Yes, it is perfectly correct.
The rumours have proven true.
The rumours have been proven true.
Both are fine

"The rumors have proven true."
or
"The rumors have proven to be true".

So, the rumors ARE true. (Emphasize the are when this is said)
The rumors are now a fact. The rumors are now facts.
So, it wasn't a rumor it was the truth.
