왜. What and Why? Also in dramas I hear 왜 a lot. It is sometimes translated as "why" and sometimes it is translated into "What". I learned 왜 as why and 뭐 as What. So is it possible for 왜 to be used as both why and What? ex: 뭐하는거야? 난 웃고 있어. 왜? (What are you doing? I'm laughing! Why?) Ex: If someone is staring at them they would say "왜?!" But it would be translated as" What?!!"

i think it just depends in culture. lol in my country if someone starring at us, we will say "why?", "why u starring at me?". sometimes we will use "what" too. so it's depends on the translator for the drama! lol
