In French, how do I know if a word is masculin or feminin?
I am having a hard time using Le and La, and other words about the french masculin and feminin words.

Genders are usually determined by the sound of the ending of the word. There are always exceptions, but for example, words finishing in "ET" are masculine (like un objet, un navet, etc.) and words in "ETTE" are feminine (like une crevette, une assiette, etc.)
It's better to learn words with the article "un" (masculin) and "une" (féminin), as "le" and "la" have a flaw : if the word starts with a vowel, we use l' regardless of the gender - therefore you won't learn the gender for all words starting with a vowels (and there are plenty of those).

Dear, here you have some rules about how to tell a French word's gender. Most of the time they work, so use them.

Unfortunately, as your mother tongue is English you'll have to get used to the idea of associating an inanimate noun with feminine or masculine since everything is 'it' in English unless you consider the object to be very important. But you'll get the hang of it.

Unfortunately there is no very quick way to know the gender of all the words. It's a process that takes time and the effort of constantly repeating words (with the definite article). It's very important to say the word out loud so you won't easily forget it and also for accent reduction. Try reading news articles from French websites because there are always great vobabulary words you can learn from them.
