Il mio dizionario etimologico mi riporta al verbo latino /parabolare/, che significa /narrare usando una allegoria/. Mi piacerebbe andare piu` indietro, ma non ho gli strumenti, e al momento escludo di cercare su internet (ho fatto indigestione di ricerche su internet per i miei corsi). === 2 The origin, as reported by my etymological dictionary is from the latin verb /parabolare/, with the original meaning: to tell a tale that should be an example for something else (Italian: allegoria).

Parlare/to speak http://www.treccani.it/vocabolario/parlare2/ [lat. mediev. parabolare, *paraulare, der. di parabŏla (v. parola)] lat. mediev. = Middle Age Latin, der. di = derived from Parola/word [lat. tardo parabŏla (v. parabola1), lat. pop. *paraula; l’evoluzione di sign. da «parabola» a «discorso, parola» si ha già nella Vulgata, in quanto le parabole di Gesù sono le parole divine per eccellenza]. – The evolution of the meaning from "parabola" to "speech, talk" it is already found in the Vulgata (Bible translation in Latin), since that Jesus' parables are the divine words par excellence. Parabola/parable http://www.treccani.it/vocabolario/parabola1/ s. f. [dal lat. parabŏla, gr. παραβολή, der. del tema di παραβάλλω «confrontare»]. – tema = stem confrontare =confront Dictionaries are learner best friends, this is only one of those ;-)
