你的朋友多不多？ Here 多 and 不多, two possibilities for the counterpart to choose one.
-Do you have lots of friends or not?
=>No. / Yes. 不多 / 多
-你有很多朋友吗？
=>是的，（我有）很多（朋友）。
=>不，不是很多。

多不多稍微有点儿啰嗦。一般可以问你的朋友多吗？或者你的朋友多不？
你的朋友多吗？ or 你的朋友多不？ is better than 多不多。
