En los libros de la gramática española, para ayudar a los estudiantes del idioma, muchas veces se escribe yo, o tú etc antes de una ejercicio. (yo) iba a decirte que .... I was going to tell you that ... ¿Por qué? para que los estudiantes sepan a quién se refiere. El verbo ir en el imperfecto, la primera persona = iba la tercera persona = iba. Es para hacerlo más claro. Sin embargo como Emilio ya te ha dicho, no es necesario y no se habla así.
