Why do you guys decide to learn Korean? :)
Surprisingly there are many people who are willing to learn Korean around the world.
It is interesting to hear how do you get motivated to keep studying Korean for yourself.

For me is started with a kiss...a "Playful Kiss" that is :) This was the first K-Drama I watched several months ago. I loved it, so I watched another, and another...and then I realized my new obsession with Korean TV wasn't allowing me to do much multitasking. I wasn't getting much else done because I had to sit there and read the subtitles. :(
So I decided that my only answer was to learn Korean for myself. Since then, I have also realized how beautiful the language is in music (Yeah K-Pop! I like some rock/indie-rock too though), how genius the Hangeul alphabet is, and how much I want to learn so that I can travel to Korea to learn about the culture and make friends. (Really, who wouldn't want to be in the middle of all those beautiful people?)

I should start to my words by saying how I liked the answer of CJ Hepp! ^_^ Absolutely written so beautiful, and sort of similar to my experience. However mine is a bit about my passion to languages, different cultures and history. Yes, it was the glorious and brave history of Koreans that I fell in love with. The dignity of their people and their manners. And their magnificent culture of thousands of years. In this point, historical dramas helped me so much. I have learnt a lot about Korean cuisine and philosophy. I have learnt to look into the world from a different perspective. Then after a while, you realize that it is not enough solely to watch movies since you want to be included and integrated more and more. I don't really know how exactly this warmth can be put into the words. But besides this, you also want this culture to stay as unique as it is. The emulation to the other cultures mess it all up. I mean why should I hear the foreign lyrics in every next verse while i try to enjoy some Korean music? O.o

For me it started with Family Guy S14E10. It featured Sistar's "Touch my Body". Peter Griffin described it perfectly: "What is this, and how can I make the rest of my life about it?". It was pure magic. So refreshing. Then I started watching Korean movies (the Vengeance trilogy, Whispering Corridors, Castaway on the Moon, A Tale of Two Sisters etc), and I totally fell in love with the language. It is so beautiful. It's like music! And though I've only experienced Korean culture through the movies, it really speaks to me.
Besides, Norway and South-Korea are almost neighbors. Look it up. There are only two countries separating the two.
