Quale differenza tra "gerundio passato" e "imperfetto indicativo"?
quale' come "the past continuous"(was doing)?Per esempio:
He learned Italian 2 years ago.imperfetto?
He has learned Italian for 2 years. passato prossimo?
He was learning Italian. gerundio passato?

L'imperfetto indica un'azione che avviene nel passato.
Nell'esempio con il gerundio, l'azione avviene nel presente, in questo periodo o mentre parliamo.
Attenzione però a non confondere le coniugazioni del gerundio: il presente e il passato.
Es. studiare
gerundio presente: studiando. Maria sta studiando
gerundio passato: avendo studiato. Maria, avendo studiato tutto il pomeriggio, la sera è uscita a fare una passeggiata con le amiche.
Come vedi il gerundio ha solo due forme (presente e passato) e non cambia in base alle persone (io, tu, lui, lei, noi, voi, loro), al contrario dell'imperfetto.
Se in una frase usi un verbo all'imperfetto, devi coniugare il verbo in base alla persona: io studiavo, tu studiavi, lui studiava, noi studiavamo, voi studiavate, loro studiavano.
