As a word, 'ambitious' can be positive or negative. On the positive side, it implies that one has long range goals and aspirations which one actively pursues. Long range goals in turn imply some degree of self-knowledge and foresight. Their long term pursuit requires motivation, determination, and perseverance; all good qualities. On the negative side, we speak of 'blind ambition'. It is the quest for some sort of power (e.g. wealth, status, fame) just for power's sake. For these people, the ends justify the means. That is, any means of achieving power is valid. This ambition is characterized by ruthlessness toward others, unless perhaps they might serve as a means to one's end. It is a decidedly bad thing.

I agree with you, Federico. My opinion is that everything should be in evarage doses. I think we need to have some goals to achive (this is the way how I understand "to be ambitious"). But it`s very important to have love, loving family. Without love, people whom you can love and who give this feeling back to you, we won`t be happy completely.

So, ambitious it's not a positive emotion because a person with high ambitious forget other emotions like love, friends, for what? Money? So, how many person are ambitious and they have a good marriage? Or a life without stress? So, the life it's an equilibrium: more ambitious no love, more love no ambitious because to be ambitious make a solo men :)

If you have no ambition then how can you achieve success in your target language! :)
