If portfolio, alongside your more pedestrian in vestments. Once you have decided on your investment aims, you can then decide where to put your money. The golden rule here is spread your risk -- if you put all of your money into Periwigs International, you're setting yourself up as a hostage to fortune. 1 I am wondering why it's " is spread your risk" but not " is to spread your risk" 2/ what's the meaning of " set up as " and how to with it make a sentence ? "The golden rule here is spread your risk" - the "spread your risk" part is an instruction, so we use imperative mood. The meaning of "set (person) up" means to put that person in a certain position or circumstance. The "as" belongs to the next clause. "You're setting yourself up as a hostage to fortune." "You're setting yourself up for failure." "You're setting yourself up to succeed."
