Is this sentence gramatically correct? "Happy Birthday to you, John !!" Dear friends Is this sentence gramatically correct? Can I add a name after "you" ? If so, should there be a comma after "you"? Please help me out. "Happy Birthday to you, John !!" Thanks in advance. Niwantha

"Happy birthday to you, John" is perfectly acceptable and you should use the comma. "Happy birthday, John" works, too, but it should have a comma, as well.

It would be more usual to say simply 'Happy birthday, John'. The phrase 'Happy birthday to you' is the first line (and also the second and fourth lines) of the song which is sung to celebrate someone's birthday. It isn't usually said to people.
