when you say someone is beaming or say someone is smiling... you are an outsider, looking at him or her. when you doubled it with the feel and shine then you are involved into him or her:)) I'm not linguistics specialist. i feel the world ...like a child:P heehee. messy.

Normally , i just say : she was beaming when i told her the news. to beam is to describe a smile that is wide , so u dont need to say > with smile coz is obvious u can say she is beaming from ear to ear meaning her smile is so wide that as though it stretch from one ear to the other . Not redundant .

technically it is, as you can say he was smiling he was beaming (where the context is 'what was the persons reaction / emotion') but it is a pleasant enough combination, as Susan says, so it is more descriptive and has a nicer atmosphere.
