Il y a une difference du style entre le verb "sembler" et "paraître" ? Est-ce que "paraitre" est plus formel ?

Non, ce sont deux verbes synonymes !

il apparais heureux = il est heureux et il montre sa joie
il semble qu'il est heureux= je pense qu'il est heureux // ou encore // il n’affirme pas sa joie

pour moi, "sembler" = seem / look like; "paraitre" = appear
