“冒雨”就是在雨没有停的情况下，在雨中做某事。“冒雨去上学”，这里要强调两点，一下是雨在下，二是不能呆在屋子里，一定要有一个在雨中的过程。比如说“我冒雨在家里睡觉”就是错误的，但说成“我冒雨回家睡觉”就是对的，因为你回家的过程中会在雨中。 其实，雨是从天而降的，人在雨中，最先打到的就是人的头顶，而冒最初就是“帽”字，因此，我们也可以说“顶着雨”，这个顶就是人的头顶，然后引申为动词，用头顶顶，冒雨就是顶着雨的意思。

冒 here is equivalent to the English "brave" as in "Brave the rain"

it means you do sth against the rain. Used to emphasis you're doing sth hard (in the rain) :)
