There are a lot of minor differences here. "Spit at" The spit doesn't necessarily land on the person, but it travels in their direction. It's usually used to describe when someone spits because they're angry or dislike a person. Example: The homeless guy wanted money. I wouldn't give it to him, so she spat at me. "Spit on" The spit actually hit its target. This can be a person or a thing. It can be intentional or not. Example: "Kyle, you can calm down. You're talking so loud you're spitting on me." "Split in" Two ways it can be used: To describe spit landing inside of a container (this one is easy) Example: I chew tobacco and spit in the can. To describe a specifically type of spitting that lands on the target's face. Example: I hate that guy so much I could spit in his face. === So in summary, If you spit at my face or spit on my face, we might be OK afterwards. Either you missed me or it was by accident. But if you spit in my face, you and I are going to have some SERIOUS PROBLEMS and you better run. :)

Spit in > Spit in to the pot ( to be inside something) spit on > spit on the floor ( to be on the surface of something ) spit at > spit at him ( to be in his direction, towards ) Spit in one's face > is an idiom > meaning showing disgust and contempt for someone to someone by spitting .
