"Poggiare" e "appoggiare" significano esattamente la stessa cosa. Tuttavia, l'uso cambia: "poggiare" è molto più formale e meno comune; si trova più spesso nello scritto e non nel parlato. "Appoggiare" è l'opzione più naturale quando si parla e si sente molto più spesso.

Hi Francis,
As stated before, these two words have the same meaning, what is different is their use in formal or informal speech.
"Poggiare" is more formal, "appoggiare" is more common and informal and often is used instead of "Poggiare"
