" He absolutely died on his arse on stage at the show last night." What does "died on his arse " mean in this sentence?

It means to do badly.
When comedians die on stage it means no one laughed.
When you fall on your arse, it means you failed.
To die on your arse is a combination of the two, to say that the actor did REALLY badly.
