Are they both ok? Would you like to join/take part in the party?
Thanks

Hi Helen,
It depends on the context. Are you referring to a party as in a social gathering, or a party as in a political party?
For a social gathering, "would you like to join the party?" makes sense, it means to take part, however, "would you like to take part in the party?" seems wrong to my ear, although there is nothing wrong with the phrase, it is an unnatural phrase to native English speakers. A more simple expression, if you are inviting someone to a party, is simply to ask "would you like to go to the party?".
For a political party, "would you like to join the party?" would imply joining, as in becoming a member, not necessarily involved beyond paying the membership fee. Whereas, "would you like to take part in the party? implies more involvement, perhaps knocking on doors and canvasing for votes, fundraising, etc. In this case, join is more passive, whereas 'take part' is more active.
But context is key here, you need to know what type of party, in order to know the correct phrasing :)
