As the others here have correctly said, "lol" stands for "Laughing Out Loud". I capitalized the first letter of each word so you could see the connection between the letter and its related word. It is shorthand, or a faster and easier way of writing, for chatting and texting. Another closely related chat or text abbreviation is "ROTFL", which stands for "Rolling On The Floor Laughing". With "ROTFL", some people will leave the "T" out, and write only "ROFL", which has the same meaning as "ROTFL". Good question!
